National History Museum

#MySundayPhoto – National History

During half-term, we visited London with the girls for the first time. We tried to do as much of the tourist things as possible. Visiting Buckingham Palace, an open top bus tour and also going to the National History Museum.

I hadn’t visited since they replaced the dinosaur for a whale in the main room so this was the perfect opportunity to take a photo.

I’m not 100% sure it has the same dramatic effect that Dippy had, maybe it will take a little time to get used to it. National History Museum

We haven’t visited in years, but that sight is one I’d recognize anywhere

I know what you mean, to our generation Dippy was an icon. Even my kids were familiar with Dippy! Love the prespective you’ve taken these shots. Minimal visual clutter from other people and glorious colours in the brickwork behind

I have never seen dippy in the bones (so to speak) but he was certainly an iconic figure. Your photo is fantastic though. I love the perspective and how it shows the architecture of the museum off too. #mysundayphoto

ah so it’s a whale, it is a little more different to a dinosaur. It sounds like you had a great time in London. We’ll have to go again soon, I’ve only been once in my wheelchair and I found it a very unfriendly place for wheelchairs, but I’m a little more confident now and there are some great guides.

I wasn’t sure what it is until I read it’s a whale. Interesting.

Hi Darren, it was the architecture that caught my eye more than the whale. The room looks quite amazing and I’m sure the whale hanging in the middle of it is more obvious in real life.

I went years ago when they had Dippy at the front. I think you’re right, the new one doesn’t quite look the same!

I’ve never taken N to the natural history museum. The queue put us off the one time we tried
