River Thames Cruise

River Thames Cruise, City Cruises London

This post is a follow on from our review of The Original Tour, this one is about River Thames Cruise by City Cruises. As part of the tour tickets that we purchased we also got free tickets to enjoy the river cruise.

This was all included in the 48-hour ticket we chose. Not only do you get the option to hop on and off of the open top buses but you can enjoy the River Thames Cruise as much as you like during that time period.

The Details

The boat can be joined at either the Tower of London or Westminster Pier, and they run from 10 am in the morning until around 6.30 pm. They can be picked up every 40 minutes.

The cruise lasts for roughly 25 minutes and while aboard there is a running live commentary but as they mention they’re not proper guides just people who’ve picked up bits of history over time. The boat is as you’d expect if it’s raining there is a lower indoor deck or for the best views and an open top to enjoy.

I’d try to get there early as it will fill up quite quickly and you might not be able to get a seat on the top deck.

Now, this is where the cruise really wins, the views from the boat are hard to beat. We picked up the boat from Tower Pier and went down to Westminster Pier.

The landmarks on this route are hard to beat anywhere in the World. You’ll see Tower of London, HMS Belfast, City Hall, St Paul’s Cathedral, The Shard, Big Ben and the London Eye. This is just the tip of the iceberg, keep your eye open for lots of other sights and keep your camera handy.

So many people visit London and take photos and the famous landmarks which is understandable. Coming from a photography background I always look for ways to capture these things, to mix things up so that the photos stand out on social media.

When we went on the cruise the water was very calm meaning I could easily take photos without the need to stabilise the camera. Capturing these scenes from a different angle will give you the edge over others and I think people will enjoy looking at them.

Conclusion

This was a brilliant inclusion on The Original Tour tickets. When London can feel hectic it is nice to take a step back and a breather. Having the ability to start the day on a calming river cruise made all the difference and if we’d of had time we would have gone on it a few more times.

It, of course, helped that the weather was ideal for us. The temperature was just perfect and allowed the girls to relax while I took some photos.

Next time we visit London we will make sure that we go on this river cruise again.

These tickets were gifted to us as part of our The Original Tour package. All thoughts and photos are our own.
